Frequently Asked Questions

How long will vinyl film last on my car?

With correct installation and care, vinyl film can last from five to seven years. Its service life depends on how the car is used and on the quality of the film.

What care does vinyl film need?

Care means washing regularly with mild products, avoiding automatic washes with brushes, and using protective waxes if the film manufacturer recommends them.

Can a car with dents or scratches be wrapped in vinyl?

Ideally the surface should be smooth and clean before wrapping. Dents and scratches can affect how well the film adheres and how it looks.

How do I choose the colour or texture of the film?

We recommend looking at the film samples in person and considering your own style, as well as how the colour you choose will work with the rest of the car.

Will wrapping affect my car's warranty?

In most cases wrapping does not affect the warranty, but it is best to check with your dealer or read the warranty terms for your car.

Can the film be removed without damaging the paintwork?

Yes. Quality film comes off easily without damaging the paint when it is removed correctly. We recommend having professionals do it.

How is a bonnet wrapped in vinyl?

The process involves preparing the surface, measuring and cutting the film, applying it carefully and a final check for bubbles and irregularities.

Is there a risk of bubbles under the film?

If the film is installed correctly the risk is minimal. Small bubbles may appear in the first few days but disappear over time.

How long does it take to wrap a car?

The time depends on the size of the car and the complexity of the job, but the process usually takes from a few hours to one or two days.

How much does it cost to wrap a car in vinyl?

The price varies depending on the type of film, the size of the car and the complexity of the work.

About this service

Car wrapping with vinyl film

Vinyl car wrapping in Chisinau

Want people to turn their heads when you drive past? There is a solution — wrapping your car in vinyl. It is a polymer material used in detailing to change the appearance of the bodywork. Take up the Detailing Lab offer and transform your car. This kind of film is built from several layers — a decorative layer, a stabilising layer and an adhesive side with channels that let air escape. Vinyl wrapping in Moldova is one of our core specialities.

Vinyl wrapping: all the technical details explained

Until recently vinyl film was mainly used for vehicle branding — applying lettering and advertising graphics. Today, however, drivers also choose to wrap a car in vinyl to protect the paintwork and to change its colour quickly and affordably. Vinyl wrapping in Chisinau is one of the services offered by Detailing Lab. We provide quality, availability and fair prices.

Vinyl films used for wrapping are best classified by how they are manufactured, because that directly determines how the material performs:

  • Calendered. Produced by rolling a vinyl blank down to the required thickness. The name comes from the calenders — the rollers used for this. These are most often films of Chinese manufacture, fairly difficult to apply and demanding in use. They are also short-lived, of mediocre strength and sensitive to the weather. Their only advantage is a fairly low price;
  • Cast. The manufacturing process pours molten polymer onto the surface of a special liquid solution. This film barely shrinks at all, and every one of its performance characteristics is far above those of calendered film.

The second thing to consider is how long the vinyl will last. Premium wrapping materials have an average service life of five to seven years. Going beyond that period is not recommended, for two reasons:

  • Vinyl fully blocks ultraviolet light, so when only some body panels are wrapped, the rest fade unevenly — which later shows up as a difference in the colour of the paintwork.
  • The adhesive layer hardens and can no longer be removed by the methods the process allows. In that case the film has to be taken off in small sections and the adhesive left on the bodywork has to be cleaned off with abrasives.

Vinyl wrapping: every advantage you get

Quality vinyl film, applied to the bodywork according to the process, gives the owner the following advantages:

  • an affordable change of the car's design, with the option of returning it quickly to its original state;
  • reliable protection of the paintwork against fading and light mechanical contact;
  • protection of the bodywork against corrosion and other effects of a damp environment;
  • concealment of small defects — chips, scratches and scuffs — on the surface of the body.

Vinyl wrapping offers you individuality for sensible money. You can transform your car into any colour and texture, from confident matte to unmatched carbon.

With Detailing Lab there is no agonising wait: you arrive, choose your film, drive away and turn heads.

Wrapping a car in vinyl: the process and the order of work

Among all the details involved in wrapping a body in vinyl, these are the ones with the greatest influence on the quality of the result:

  • Thorough preparation of the working surface. This is effectively the most important and one of the most labour-intensive stages, and it determines both adhesion and the appearance of the protective decorative layer. It consists of carefully abrading and degreasing the surface.
  • Keeping the workspace clean and holding the right temperature in the room where the work is done.
  • On large body panels the film is wrapped around the edges, which rules out any lifting when the car meets the jet of a high-pressure washer.

How the work is carried out

  • Consultation and choice. We discuss your ideas, select the material and colour and calculate the price.
  • Preparing the bodywork. We wash it thoroughly, degrease it and remove the finest contamination.
  • Wrapping. We apply the film so that it follows every contour exactly, warming and smoothing each section.
  • Final check. We inspect the quality, trim the excess and give you aftercare advice.

Book a consultation right now — and within a few days you will be catching admiring glances on the roads of Chisinau. Your car deserves to look exactly the way you imagine it. Trust the professionals and you will get the result. Vinyl wrapping at Detailing Lab will bring you nothing but good feelings, and a result to match.
