Frequently Asked Questions

Can a car be waxed straight after buying it?

Yes, and it is the right decision. Even new lacquer needs protection from the sun and from contamination.

How does a wax coating differ from a ceramic coating?

A ceramic coating creates a harder, longer-lasting layer. Wax gives a softer, deeper shine and is simpler to renew.

Is hard wax suitable for everyday driving?

Yes. It is one of the best options for cars used intensively in the city.

Can wax be combined with other forms of protection?

Yes, some products are applied over protection that is already in place.

How often does the layer need renewing?

On average every three to five months, depending on how the car is used.

Is the treatment safe for the paintwork?

Completely. When the process is followed it does not damage the lacquer.

Is there any point in having it done before winter?

Yes. Winter road chemicals in Moldova are aggressive, and an extra protective layer significantly reduces their effect.

How do I know the protection has stopped working?

When water no longer beads up and the surface starts getting dirty more quickly.

Car wax coating

Car wax coating — protection you can see

A car is not merely a way of getting around. It reflects its owner, their attitude to detail and to quality. But even the most careful driver cannot protect the bodywork from sun, road chemicals, dust and temperature swings. The lacquer gradually loses its depth, the shine dulls and the surface becomes less expressive.

That is exactly why professional waxing remains one of the most requested treatments in detailing. It is not cosmetics for a day but a considered system for protecting the paintwork.

We have worked in this field for many years and we know for certain: waxing done properly can genuinely transform a car. At the Detailing Lab studio in Chisinau we see every day how the perception of a car changes after the treatment. The colour becomes saturated, the surface deep, and the bodywork looks as though it has been covered in clear glass.

This matters particularly in the conditions of Moldova. In summer there is strong sun and high temperatures; in winter, moisture and road chemicals. The lacquer is under constant load. Protection is needed regularly, not at some point in the future.

What wax actually gives a car

Picture raindrops on freshly waxed bodywork. They gather into tight beads and roll straight down without leaving a trace. That is the protective layer at work.

Professional waxing creates a barrier between the lacquer and the outside world. It reduces the aggressive effect of ultraviolet light, stops dirt and road chemicals sticking, and makes washing easier. The car stays clean and well kept for longer.

But the visual effect is not the only thing that matters. The protective layer slows the oxidation of the lacquer. That means the car will look younger than its age even after years of use.

Types of wax and making the right choice

There is no universal solution for every car. In some cases we recommend synthetic products with higher durability; in others, natural waxes that give an expressive, warm shine.

Hard wax deserves particular mention. It is a denser, more concentrated product. It demands careful application and exact adherence to the process. In return the result is durable and visually deep. This option suits cars used intensively in Chisinau and across Moldova especially well.

When it comes to protection we always work from the real conditions of use. The climate of Moldova, how often the car is washed and where it is kept all influence the choice of product.

How professional waxing is carried out

Many people think it is enough to wash the car and apply the product. But a quality wax coating begins long before the application itself.

First the car goes through deep cleaning. We remove not only visible dirt but hidden contamination too: tar residue, embedded metal particles, traces of road chemicals. In Chisinau this matters especially — the urban environment leaves a great many micro-particles on the bodywork that no ordinary wash can remove.

The surface is then inspected carefully under professional lighting. If there are micro-scratches or slight hazing, we recommend gentle polishing. Wax does not hide defects — it emphasises them. That makes preparation critical.

Next the bodywork is degreased. It is a subtle but extremely important stage. Residues of oils and shampoo can prevent the product bonding properly.

Only then does application begin. The product is spread in a thin, even layer. We follow the temperature range and the curing time strictly. The surface is then carefully buffed with soft microfibre to a perfect gloss.

Clients often ask why they should not simply take the quick wax option at a car wash. The answer is simple — the result and the service life differ fundamentally. A standard wax at a car wash gives a short-lived shine. A full coating applied without preparation does not create durable protection.

We do not work for speed. We work for the result.

The difference between a quick service and a professional approach

It is important to understand that a wax at a car wash usually means an express product that lasts a few weeks. It adds shine but does not build a complete protective layer.

A professional wax coating is carried out in stages with every step under control. In Chisinau and across the region of Moldova this matters a great deal — the climate and the road conditions demand serious protection.

How long the protection lasts

Service life depends on the product and on the conditions of use. Natural waxes work for one to two months. Synthetic ones last longer. And hard wax, with proper care, can keep its protective properties for up to six months.

Renewing the layer regularly keeps the bodywork in perfect condition without the need for expensive restorative polishing later on.

Why the work is worth entrusting to professionals

A professional wax coating is a balance of appearance and protection. It is the case where a car does not merely shine but is genuinely protected. And that is exactly the difference between a temporary effect and proper care.

At Detailing Lab we approach the process like jeweller's work. Light, temperature, microfibre, the thickness of the layer — everything matters. That is why after the treatment a car looks not simply clean but genuinely well kept.

And when an owner sees their own reflection in the bodywork, they understand that protection can be beautiful too.
